Below are the dogs currently available in Austin, TX. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis. The adoption fee for most of these dogs is $175; if a dog is not spayed or neutered we require a $75 deposit, which is refundable once surgery is performed.

Maggie - is a cute, affectionate tan hound mix who has plenty of energy! She enjoys swimming and playing catch and tug-o-war, knows basic commands, and is in great shape. Maggie seems to be happiest spending time outside and even likes to sleep on her bed outside at night in good weather, although since she is housebroken and crate-trained she can spend time inside with the family. She needs lots of exercise and attention, otherwise she gets a little bored and lonely and sometimes barks more than the neighbors appreciate. Maggie does not like cats, but is fine with dogs in public places, although she is territorial in her own yard. Are you looking for an active dog to spend a lot of time outside with you walking, jogging, playing and just generally hanging out? Then Maggie may be your girl!

Sargent - Is very outgoing. He loves people and playing with the other dogs. He will run right up to people to be pet. He really likes being around people and other pets. He did very good on the leash and didn't pull on his walk. He is a funny guy who likes to eat and he lay on his belly while eating.

Moby - Is rather shy guy and very easy going. He is a little slow to warm up to people and will need some time to learn to trust fully; that said, he gives every sign that he'll be a super dog with a little TLC. His body is solid white with a perfectly round spot just above his tail, has a brown and black spot on his tail and brown spots on his eye. He was a bit nervous at first on a leash, we figure he'd never seen one before, but then walked at his own pace, so he'll need some encourgement to be really comfortable on-lead. Defying his hound genes he eats at his own pace also, is in no hurry to finish his food and will stop eating to go get water, meaning his foster home has to make sure the others don't steal his food when they are done eating!

Sammy - is a sweet and friendly chocolate beagle boy given up by his family when they moved. Sammy gets on with people and other dogs. He's a pretty easy going guy and is crate trained. Sammy just wants somewhere to retire, where he can just go about his business being a dog. Remember that a beagle's life expectancy is 12-15 years, so Sammy's got a long way to go! Sammy is generally healthy and in good shape.

Belle - is just about the sweetest, easiest beagle we've ever seen. This girl is just grateful to be inside and fawned over. Belle was surrendered to a local kill shelter by her family for economic reasons. We grant she isn't the prettiest beagle right now, but Hound Rescue will pay for her cherry eye surgery which should go a long way towards restoring her good looks! Her foster family adores her, she loves to just come be with them, without being demanding about getting attention. Belle is doing great with other dogs and cats. This girl will be forever grateful to any family who treats her right!

Mack - is a great, fun beagle boy who will fit into pretty much any situation. Mack is about the most laid-back easy going guy we've ever had. He gets on with humans, dogs, cats, kids, the works. Mack's foster family can't say enough about this guy. He's on the bigger side for a beagle and could be a mix, but who cares? Whatever he's got in him made him one super boy!

Lucy - is a beautiful hound girl who needs to be rehomed; Lucy is a very sweet and gentle dog, who will benefit from a structured environment and routine. Lucy's dream home is one where the owner is home more often than not, a stay at home parent or work from home type situation would be ideal for her. Lucy needs a large, secure yard and will benefit from some training. Due to her special circumstances Hound Rescue will assist either a foster or adoptive home with training expenses. Lucy's energy level belies her age, she'd love to be in a family where she could get lots of exercise and human interaction. Lucy is good with kids and dogs, and lived fine with cats in the past, but its been a few years so she might need some reminders. This sweet girl will be a great pet for the right home, might it be yours?

Maya & Vinny(Application Pending) - are two adorable, well-mannered beagles who have been together since they were puppies. They love each other and enjoy being together, but are also overflowing with love and affection for their human family. Maya is the beautiful lemon-colored gal and Vinny the handsome tri-colored guy. Maya will never turn down the opportunity to play and does her “Happy Feet” dance (remember the movie about the little penguin?) when she’s happy to see you, which is all the time! Vinny is a sweet, gentle soul who loves to follow his foster mom everywhere. He’s graceful, athletic and eager to please – an absolute joy. Maya and Vinny are accustomed to staying in the house all day and are reliably housebroken. They delight in soaking up some sunshine and love to go for walks and play in the yard. At night, they sleep in their doggie bed and won’t disturb you until they know you’re up for the day. These sweet beagles lost everyone and everything they loved except each other, so we feel it’s important to keep them together. Can you open your heart and your home so this wonderful pair can spend the rest of their lives together with people who love them?

Lacy(Application Pending) - is a rare Blue Lacy dog; this hound breed is the state dog of Texas and was brought back from the brink of extinction over the past few years. We got this girl because she showed up in TLAC with a broken leg -- but not many of these ever hit the shelters. Since Blue Lacys are largely hounds we thought she'd fit right in. Lacy's leg is now well healed and she is ready for her forever family. Lacy is just a pup, probably in the 6-8 month age range; she is very hound pup - playful and energetic. She is good with all creatures, cats and dogs alike, and as exhuberant as they come till its time to cuddle, then this girl is the sweetest, snuggliest girl around. Lacy will do well with an active owner, while her activity requirements are normal for the breed they are high in general; Lacy's a fantastic candidate to be a running partner, or a perfect dog to get on the training circuit (agility anyone?). Lacy will likely top out around 50 pounds or so.
