Below are the dogs currently available in the Austin, TX area. Applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis and a home visit is required. The adoption fee for most of these dogs is $200, puppies are $250, seniors $150; if a dog is not spayed or neutered we require a $75 deposit, which is refundable once surgery is performed.

The page is updated regularly, please scroll to the bottom of the page to see all of our available dogs.

Also, [Application Pending] means the dog does have an application, but backups are welcome and [Adoption Pending] means the dog is in an adoptive home on the trial period, but has not yet been adopted so we will still accept applications until the adoption is finalized.

For more information please contact info@houndrescue.com or learn how to apply if interested in adopting.

Our Senior Sweeties

We realize that many of you are looking for younger dogs, and you are welcome to submit an application so that we can keep you in mind when a younger dog enters our program. However, priority will be given to applications for the older dogs listed below. These are the dogs that need homes right now!! Through no fault of their own, they have been abandoned to the rescue system, many of them as owner surrenders - typically victims of divorce, elderly owners who can no longer care for them, or owners falling on financial hard times. Won't you please consider partnering with us in their rescue by providing them with loving forever homes for the rest of their lives?

Slink

Slink is a little ball of energy with a big, big heart. We aren't sure exactly what her mix is, but our best guess is Beagle/Dachshund. She has settled nicely in with her foster family, playing with her fellow fosters and minding the cat. She is crate trained, but prefers to cuddle with her foster mom at night and does fine in the house with no one home. Her favorite activity is walking in the park and sniffing all the new smells that weren't there the day before. She also enjoys being outside in the back yard sunning herself and watching other dogs walk by. She will do best in a home with a routine and a good amount of activity. She has done well with the kids that she has met and doesn't bother the resident cat. Slink does have some minor medical issues that we will discuss directly with interested adopters, so please complete an application if interested. If you are looking for a loving, loyal companion...look no further.

Buddy

Buddy is a sweetheart! Mellow and well behaved, he is mostly content hanging out with you or in a comfy, cozy doggy bed. Buddy sleeps through the night and is house trained. He gets excited to go on walks and loves them even if it's cold and drizzly outside. He loves people and enjoys being around them all the time. Buddy will bark and get excited when you come home or if he gets bored when left outside. He gets along well with people of all ages, other dogs, and cats. He prefers a calm environment and calm buddies (both humans and other pets). Buddy is shy of loud noises and some objects (like a camera), but with just a little reassurance he quickly comes out of it and is back to being a happy, friendly, affectionate dog!

Buddy will do best in a home where someone is with him most of the time. His requirements for his future home include: indoor only dog; a comfy, cozy doggy bed; air conditioning; a calm environment; access to the outdoors at least twice a day via walks or a fenced yard; lots of love, patience, and attention. If you are looking for a calm, docile, sweet dog, then Buddy is the one for you. His unique personality and calm demeanor will make him the perfect pet for any loving family; meet him and see for yourself. Buddy needs heartworm treatment, which Hound Rescue will pay for. Contact us for more information about this sweet guy if you're looking for a devoted companion and have lots of love to share.

Margie

Margie, she loves her people! She's always near her foster parents and likes to sleep in her bed with a pillow (but will also sleep in a crate). Everyday, she greets her foster mom at the door, wags her tail, and begins to tell all about her day and that it's time to go outside. Dinnertime is another time when she loves to let you know you're not working fast enough to fill her dinner bowl! She has deep soulful eyes and loves to have her tummy rubbed. Margie enjoys running around the house and playing. She doesn't get up on the furniture, is house broken, and knows to go and sit by the back door when she needs outside. She is always the first to want back in and will bark, letting you know, "Hey, open the door folks".

Margie has some special needs that an adopter needs to take into consideration. We think she'd prefer to be an only dog, but she could be a good match for a submissive buddy. Margie has recovered from severe kidney stones and will need prescription dog food to prevent their return ($45/bag). She has heartworms and Hound Rescue will pay for her treatment; she is currently on the waiting list as there is a medication shortage, but she can go to an adoptive home anytime. She is asymptomatic and on HW pills so her condition won't get worse. All Margie really wants is to be the center of somebody's universe and get all of their love and attention.

Chopper

Chopper is a typical older beagle guy - happy to eat and hang out. The down side of this is that he's put on some pounds, so his diet is underway. Chopper does fine with his two doggie foster sisters. He is housebroken and has easily settled into his foster family's routines. Chopper enjoys walks. He's generally just an easygoing guy looking for people to chill with!

Scooter

Scooter is a sweet guy who gets on with most everyone. He's learning about cats in his foster home -- he's just curious, not aggressive, and *loves* his people. Scooter really will do best in a home where his folks are around more than less. He prefers the freedom to roam (and defines roam as following his people around). His requirements for his future family include: air conditioning and access to the indoors, lots of attention, patience and understanding. He's been great with other dogs but will probably do better with calm buddies (both human and canine) as he gets a little worked up when there is lots of activity going on, for that reason we do not think he is a good match for families with young children. Contact us for more information about this sweet guy if you're looking for a devoted companion and have lots of love to share.

Quincy

Quincy is a fun older guy who would do well in a home of his own or with another calm, older dog. He definitely will benefit from an owner who knows beagles and can show leadership. Quincy is generally an easygoing, layabout guy, he's come a long way in terms of socialization with other dogs since entering our program, but really needs to move on to a permanent home that will love him for who he is. Quincy needs a quiet environment and likely isn't a good match for children. We're hoping he will finally find his forever family soon.
